Dr. Amin El-Yousfi is described as the first Moroccan to obtain a doctoral degree from the University of Cambridge on a full scholarship. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economics, followed by another master’s degree in sociological and political studies. Alongside his academic training, Dr. El-Yousfi studied under a number of distinguished scholars across several Islamic and Western countries.

In addition, he obtained multiple diplomas and certifications in diverse fields. His doctoral dissertation brought together history, anthropology, economics, and philosophical and religious studies, and was awarded the prestigious Brais Prize for best doctoral thesis in 2020.

Dr. El-Yousfi is currently a member of the governing board of Darwin College at the University of Cambridge and serves as a research professor at the same college, as well as within the Department of Social Sciences at the university, where he supervises undergraduate and master’s research. He is also a key figure at the Cambridge Muslim College.

Dr. Amin El-Yousfi’s ideas and research findings have been presented and discussed in numerous lectures and international conferences across the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has published many peer-reviewed articles in academic journals on management, neoliberal economics, the condition of Muslims in the Western world, philosophy of science, and other related fields. His new book on neoliberal transformation is currently under publication with the prestigious Oxford University Press.

Purpose of the Program

The Himma Program emerged from a desire to share knowledge publicly and to respond to growing interest in deeper historical and philosophical dialogue. The Program is conceived as an opportunity to explore an ancient Moroccan city alongside Dr. El-Yousfi, where historical consciousness and scholarly inquiry intersect to inspire new intellectual horizons.
